Some images take years to find.

They turn up where you would never think to look. In the margin of a wallpaper painted in Canton for a house in England. On a garden plan, its parterres still inked in green and rose. On the face of an envelope that crossed an ocean a century ago, the hand still legible.

Finding them is the patient part. The harder part is knowing which one belongs on a table. And that judgement defines Métier.

Four designs a year, each printed at our largest size, each with its provenance card. Four is not what we could make. It is what we choose to release.

The tiger is one of the chicest, most unapologetic motifs there is, and it has always known its place: a stair runner, a pair of chairs, one silk bolster. A small dose, set exactly where a room should declare itself. Everywhere in the house except the table.

A place card is the smallest dose there is. The pelt runs edge to edge, photographed hair by hair at Deyrolle in Paris by our founder Martin Cooper, brought to order by a black rule a sixteenth of an inch wide and a gold cartouche that echoes the card's own clipped corners. Buffon recorded in the Histoire Naturelle that Chinese mandarins covered their seats and sedans with tiger skin; the skin said whose seat it was. That is what a place card does, and this one does it with verve — the boldest thing on the table, and the piece a guest takes home.

• Customize your place cards with your guest's names. With numerous fonts to choose from, you can have your cards arrive perfectly calligraphed with your guest's names printed on the backs. That's one less thing for you to do.
• Choose your style of calligraphy above, then add up to 8 guest's names per pack.
• Please note: Our standard practice is to feature first names only. Should you wish to include full guest names (first + last), a 50% surcharge will apply to the calligraphy fee, as each card requires additional design time and layout consideration.
• We even include a blank card called "Try your hand" to test your writing instrument if you want to write your names yourself or send them out to your calligrapher.

• We aim to ship your order from our workshop in Old Chatham, New York in 10 days. Please order early enough to receive your items for your event.
• Once your order ships, timely delivery is now the responsibility of the shipper.
