The Shaker tradition of utility and grace found its most enduring expression in objects made for daily use, and the Mount Lebanon Hand Broom is one of them. Tampico fibers drawn from the agave plant, wrapped with pale nylon cord; a broomcorn handle; a leather loop that lets the broom hang between sweepings. It is made for hearths, tabletops, and delicate surfaces — the kind of gentle, effective sweep that doesn't impose on the thing being cleaned. The leather loop turns it into a wall display as readily as a tool, which is the Shaker way. Variations in Tampico color are the mark of the material, not the work.
